use your imagination...
The ability to play is one that allows us to work though problems in our
life and also gives us a way to relive stress. When we can step out of
the humdrum of daily life and use an aspect of ourselves that is
normally repressed, it enriches our lives and makes us complete and
full. With this recharging moment, we can go back to work, to studying,
to whatever we are required to do with more in our hearts besides the
thought of going home.
The characters, story, and scenery pieces are meant to be used by the
viewer as toys. They are all wearable in some way to
help the user carry them around so that they can use their imagination
at any given time. The possibilities for more creative play by taking
the work around to different locations that a person might be in are
limitless. There are no bounds on the imagination, only catalysts for
it.
The interaction of the different pieces is also an important aspect
of my work. By taking pieces that may not relate that closely to each
other, different and unusual story lines are created. The juxtapositions
of different themes can also be created when the pieces are used in
different environments.

thumbtackforest
Sterling Silver, thumbtacks
2006
Don't have a Pine Forest Handy? Use that box of Thumbtacks Instead!
These small
figurines allow a person to project themselves onto the dolls,
they are bland and indistinct, allowing the user to place the
gender and clothing onto the dolls via their imagination. The
true scale of the figures are also left to the viewer. Are
they human sized in an odd landscape? Or are they extra petite,
walking through a giants world?

Brain-Aliens attack
Sterling Silver
2006
Things from outer space landing on Earth.... What do they want?
With these three rings, a person could wear their own invading alien
army. Their imagination dictates if the aliens are pictured in actual
size, or if they are miniatures. Taking the pieces around with you
is a great way to come up with new situations that these aliens could
get into. Maybe you're in a mall, are the aliens stunned that
someone else already did their brainwashing? Or perhaps you're at
work, and could really use a death ray beam to get rid of that
annoying coworker?

Slipped
Sterling Silver
2006
That monster wrecked our town, and it didn't even have the decency
to clean up its own slime trail!
Although the playful scale of the slug monster is best seen in
relation to the city bracelet, it has many more adventures than
just that. The rubber ribbon can be configured to a necklace
when both ends are hooked in, or it can be a messy disgusting
slime trail that is left behind in the slug's wake as it wanders
through the user's different environments.

Text Necklace
Paper, Sterling Silver
2006
A fragment of a story is the sum total of the necklaces. By not
giving the full story, but rather a small tidbit of what is
happening, it creates many questions for the viewer. They ask
themselves: Who are these characters? What are they doing?
Where are they? What's going on? By providing just enough detail
in the sentences, it gives the viewer a blurry picture that they
begin to make clear by coming up with their own answers to their
questions. They, in essence, make the story, the necklace is a
prompt for them build off of.

castle bracelet
Sterling Silver, thumbtacks
2006
The bracelets are backdrops that the wearer can use to explore
their imagination in different scenarios. Finding ordinary objects
in the users environment, they can be transformed into figures or
props that can be used in conjunction with the bracelet.
The thumbtack, instead of representing a tree, could represent a
person defending the walls of the castle against the invading hordes.

City on a Subway
Sterling Silver
2006
The bracelets can also be placed in different environments to
stimulate the thoughts of the user. How did a city develop on
the seat of a subway car? What is the main industry in that city
on the subway? Recycling? Only the user can truly decide, and
even that can be changed according to the users environment.
